She was born Maria da Gra�a Meneghel, on March 27, 1963, in the
Brazilian town of Santa Rosa. She was the youngest of seven children. Her
brother gave here the nickname Xuxa. At the age of seven she moved with
her family to Rio de Janerio. At the age of 16 she began modeling and
got so many offers she signed with the Ford Modeling Agency in New York.
1982 was the start of her TV career. She graced the centerfold of Playboy in
the December 1982, Brazilian edition, which led to a role in a movie. In
1983 Forbes Magazine estimated her income in the preceeding two years to
be over a million dollars. In 1989 she established the Xuxa Meneghel
Foundation, which feeds, shelters, and educates impoverished children.
She also spearheaded a campaign that resulted in 90% of all Brazilizn
children being immunized against polio .

She had a network TV show here in the USA that lasted only one season .
It survived in re-runs for a while on cable TV , but then dissapeared
without a trace. My fellow Americans must have had a bad case of the
stupids when they cancelled her show! To this day I still surf the spanish
(which I don't speak) TV stations in hope of catching a glimpse of her!
